Annual fundraiser by students of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas benefits senior citizens, orphans and underprivileged children this year
Making a dash for charity – 2000 enthusiastic runners raise funds for the underprivileged
Subang Jaya, 16 August 2015 – It was a Sunday morning filled with enthusiasm and excitement as 2,000 runners from all walks of life gathered and dashed off from the starting line at the annual fundraising Jog For Hope run organised by Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas.

This is the 7th series of the annual ‘jog-for-a-cause’ fundraising event, fully organised by students, and the beneficiaries for this year are Siddharthan Care Centre, a home for underprivileged children and senior citizens, and the Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram orphanage.

Assisted by 120 volunteers, including students and staff from Taylor's College Sri Hartamas and Taylor's College Subang Jaya, Jog For Hope 2015 successfully raised a total of RM60,000 that was presented to the Siddharthan Care Centre and Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram orphanage at the end of the event. Last year RM 57,000 was raised, and the amount has steadily increased since the run first began in 2009. Cumulatively since 2009, Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas Jog For Hope has raised an astounding RM 234,000 in the bid to help the underprivileged.

“On behalf of the organising committee, I thank the participants and supporters of Jog For Hope for their positive feedback and their encouragement for our charitable initiatives. We wouldn’t have been able to raise the funds without their generous contributions and enthusiastic participation and their personal effort to spread the word on this event. I would also like to thank the organising committee and the volunteers for all their hard work, even forgoing their rest and leisure time on a Sunday morning to make sure everything runs smoothly. I am touched by your passion and dedication for helping the less fortunate,” said Sze Kah Seng, Organising Chairman of Jog For Hope 2015.

“I have learnt a lot in my role as Organising Chairman, both in terms of managing and coordinating my team members and making the best of their abilities, and also in managing all the details that go into organising an event of this scale. I am glad that Taylor’s College makes sure that students have the opportunity to become productive members of society by encouraging us to initiate and run activities that benefit the less fortunate. I know this is good for my future – that the college is spurring us to be thoughtful and well-rounded members of society with leadership skills to make a difference. It’s not just about academics for us college students.”

Jog For Hope featured three categories – the 3km Fun Run, 6km Turbo Run and 10km Resilience Run. Participation fees were RM30 for school children, RM40 for tertiary students and RM50 for all other participants, while children below 6 could participate for free. The first 500 registrants were eligible for a RM5 early bird discount in all 3 paid categories. This year, participants were pleasantly surprised as the trademark Jog for Hope cotton T-shirt was able to be upgraded to Dry-Fit material due to the generosity of sponsors.

Jog For Hope participant, Edmund Tang, who finished the 10km Resilience Run shared: “It is my first time participating in Jog For Hope. I heard about it from my friend and decided to join. It was a good run and I hope I will be able to participate again next year. It would be nice to get a finishing medal as well. Maybe next year!”

Amirah Afiqah, a student at Taylor’s College, was excited to participate in her first ever run. “I just finished my first 3 km! I am excited and energised to be a part of this good cause and I would definitely recommend my friends to join Jog For Hope next year.”
