Raya In Kampung

No food photos.

No family photos either.

The highlight of Raya was going back to my hometown and in time for rambutan, mangosteen and durian! LOL
Durian fell off tree.
Durian eaten happily. Hahaha
Picking up low fruiting mangosteen.
Using a pole to get to the higher mangosteen.

Mangosteen that fell to the ground can't be kept long and have to be eaten quickly otherwise, they won't be nice. "kerang" as we in kampung would say. :P (No, I dunno how to explain what it means. Muahaha)
There were rambutans too!

Happiness. ^^

Because Everybody Deserves A Best Buddy In Their Life

A walk for inclusion.

A walk for acceptance.

A walk for friendship.

Are we embarrassed of disabled people, even (or especially) when they're our family? Do we discriminate them, instead of offering them our friendship? Our love? Our acceptance?

That's what is mentioned in the video above.

That's why I am open to participate in Best Buddies Friendship Walk because, quoting Helen Keller; "Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light."

What's it's all about?

Best Buddies Friendship Walk 2014 aims to changes lives, as participants walk for inclusion, friendship, leadership, and opportunity for people with and without Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
In the Best Buddies Friendship Walk Malaysia, the goal is to generate awareness and also to showcase our program to other schools, universities and corporations so that they too would adopt this program and help spread the vision of a Malaysia that actively practices INCLUSION.

Walk for inclusion. Walk for friendship. Walk for a better community.

Best Buddies is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

How can we be a part of this?

Registration can be done via this online registration form (link here)

Here's an activity flow of the flow come Sep 6th, which I got from their Facebook page :
Anyways, more info on Best Buddies can be gleaned from this website too (link here) and also Best Buddies Malaysia.

The least we can do, of course join the Best Buddies Friendship Walk 2014 which will be held on September 6th, 2014 from 4.00pm - 8.30pm at Taman Tasik Permaisuri.

I'll be there. Will you join me?

Buka Puasa - A Whole Lot Of Durians!

What joy!

Eating durians in all sorts of style for breaking of fast. Hehehe
A huge dollop of sambal tempoyak (fermented durian with pounded chillis) eaten with ulam (raw vegetables and rice). Yummy!
Pengat durian for desserts. Heavenly!
and the best part of Friday's buffet dinner for us, eating durian by the poolside. Durians being opened and served by hotel chef. Lovely.
Durians served on a plate. We just had a few rounds as we were already full eating for breaking of fast earlier but suffice to say, I was happy! ^^

Burp.

28th Day Of Ramadhan : Almost Raya

"O Allah increase my enjoyment and satisfaction, in this month, in the prayers I pray out of my own free will, kindly make haste in quick disposal of my affairs in my interest, let me be near to the “Means of Approach” (Muhammad and Aali Muhammad) who are the select best medium to gain Thy favours, O He who does not get confused on account of the ceaseless demands of the countless beseechers, but attend to each and every supplication."

Son had finished his exams on Wednesday (so many exams in Year 6!!!) and had nothing much to do at school and even the teachers were OK with students going off early for the Raya week.

However, he still woke up bright and early today as he has a Majlis Tilawah at school. Tilawah means recitation of Al-Quran.

He's singing nasyid too and spent a good part of last night practising.

School will be off for the whole week, next week but Mommy and Daddy are only taking an extra day off on Wednesday for Raya. Gotta keep the annual leave for our year-end trip. ^^!
I'm glad I'm still in the office as look what the cat brought in. Thank you Anay and Letchumy for the nice Raya goodies.

For everyone,
Selamat hari Raya Aidil Fitri
Maaf Zahir Batin
and
Enjoy the long weekend.

Drive safe!

27th Day of Ramadhan : Lailatul Qadar

Credit : http://khayasar.wordpress.com

"Among the nights of Ramadan is one special night, which is better than a thousand months (HQ, 97:3). Good deeds performed on that single night are equal to those performed over a thousand months. It is the Night of Power (Lailatul Qadr), when the Qur'an was revealed. Some commentators believe it was the night when the Qur'an was brought down from Baytul M`amur (Heavenly abode), for Jibrael to reveal in parts to the Prophet (s). Others say it was the night when the Prophet received the entire Qur'an, but was asked to transmit it as and when the occasion demanded.

Lailatul Qadr is a celebration to commemorate the arrival of the final guidance for humans. It is a tribute to the commencement of the message revealed to mankind by their Creator, a message which shows them the way to achieve happiness in both the worlds. Just as the arrival of a child is celebrated, on its birth and then every year, as a bringer of joy and fulfilment for the family, Lailatul Qadr is celebrated as a bringer of light and guidance for mankind. Unlike the birthday which is celebrated with a feast for the senses, Lailatul Qadr includes a feast for the spirit, a feast of worship and prayers.

Some hadith indicate that the fate of every believer for the coming year is decreed on this night. That is why the Du`as for this night ask for special favours in the decree for the year. Believers are encouraged to stay awake the entire night, and pray for blessings and forgiveness. It is the holiest night of the year, and it would be unwise to be heedless of the tremendous benefits of this night."

PRESS RELEASE : Energizer Malaysia announces EPIC Homes as partner for “Light Up the Dark” initiative

Kuala Lumpur, 22 July 2014

Energizer Malaysia is pleased to announce EPIC Homes as its CSR partner of “Light Up the Dark” initiative for this year’s edition of the Energizer Night Race. EPIC Homes is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide sustainable homes for the underprivileged communities. Under the partnership, Energizer Malaysia hopes to raise RM180,000 in funding and lighting support to build up homes for Orang Asli in rural Peninsular Malaysia.
Mike Foong, MD for Energizer Malaysia & Singapore

“The Positivenergy created by runners and supporters of Energizer Malaysia enables us to create change that matters. The Energizer Night Race is not only a race to promote healthy lifestyle but to gather and empower runners in making a positive impact to the society that we live in - together we race for a brighter world, “said Mike Foong, Managing Director of Energizer Malaysia and Singapore.

John-Son Oei, CEO of EPIC Homes, “EPIC Homes is honored to be part of the Malaysia’s largest night race and work with a passionate brand like Energizer - its Positivenergy philosophy is truly inspiring and infectious. With Energizer’s generous contributions and quality lighting products, together we literally are brightening lives to ‘Light Up the Dark’, a meaningful initiative that is closely related to what we have been doing for the underprivileged Orang Asli communities”.

Energizer Night Race 2014 which will flag off on August 9 at Dataran Merdeka is now the largest night race in Malaysia following the close of its registrations with 15,000 runners just three weeks after its launch.

To date, Energizer has collected RM100,000 from the participants’ registration fees and contributions made by its wholesalers and partners. The funds would be further raised from Energizer sale proceeds at all AEON & AEON BIG retail stores, GIANT stores, TESCO Stores and MYDIN stores from 1st August until 30th September 2014. For every pack of the Energizer Batteries, Lightings & Specialty products sold, RM 0.20 from the sales will go towards the initiative. On top of sale proceeds, Energizer Malaysia will be supplying household lighting products to the Orang Asli for their everyday use.

Participants and supporters can support the initiative by contributing in cash or in kind – purchase and donate any Energizer battery pack and lighting product – at the Energizer Night Race 2014 race site. The EPIC team will be there to meet and greet visitors and cheer on the runners as they complete Malaysia’s largest night race. To date, the social enterprise has built 24 homes in Malaysia and targets to ensure that every Orang Asli has a safe home in 5 years.

The Energizer team will not only provide funding and products but will sweat it out and join in the construction.

“We are looking forward to building homes with the EPIC team after our night race and realizing the cause with a lucky supporter or contributor. Do stay tuned to our website and Facebook for upcoming news and information,” Foong added.

For latest updates, public can visit Energizer Malaysia official website at energizer.com.my/nightrace/ or Facebook page www.facebook.com/EnergizerMY .

Mosquitoes Repellent, The Natural Way

The rise of dengue cases sure made me worried. With the dry spell and the onslaught of mozzies at home, it sure is not advisable to leave the window & door open.

There are a few other plants that can act as natural mosquitoes repellent :

1. Lemongrass (impossible to plant at our home. Balcony to small to even accommodate a potted plant)
2. Catnip
3. Rosemary (oooo herbs!)
4. Basil (another herbs)
5. Lavender
6. Geranium

When Small Kucing's Mommy offered to give me pots of mosquito repellent plants (which are also herbs), I accepted it gratefully.

Her generous plants... all healthy and thriving. I hope I can let it grow healthily too. *fingers crossed*

Let's hope these two plants won't die on me!

Thank you Mamarazzi!

22nd Day Of Ramadhan : A Buka Puasa Buffet Treat

It's not that I cook for buka puasa, but we always buka puasa at home (or in hubby's case, at work) except for last Friday when we ate at Subway.

Tue & Thursday, Son would buka puasa with his grand dad and uncles while Mommy chose to run and just drink Revive for buka puasa and eat later during the night.

On Friday, we finally head to a nearby hotel in Mid Valley for a buffet buka puasa. Nothing too lavish, and actually the spread at the restaurant was quite simple.
I was actually quite happy eating salad. Heaps of them! Haven't been eating these since the first day of puasa.
plus a little bit of other stuff. Hahaha
I was actually went on a coffee drinking spree. Cups and cups of them!

Yet, I slept soundly that night, and even gotten a good 8 hours sleep to boot!

Didn't linger too long there as hubby wanted to head out for his Friday nights trail run with his running buddy.

I was supposed to do a 13K run but was too full to even contemplate a slow run! Hahaha

Maybe we'll have another buka puasa outing next week. Maybe not. We'll see. ^^

BOH Highlands Run, Anyone?

What to do when one visits Cameron Highlands? The usual would be :
1. Visit BOH Tea plantation
2. Hikes/jungle walks
3. Farm visits for fresh strawberries, veges, butterflies, honeys, cactus, etc ^^
4. Steamboats! Makan!
5. Visit night markets and markets. Makan some more! LOL

How about going out for a run and donning a mad hat while at it too? Yeah, something different for those planning for a visit to Cameron Highlands  in September and it's joining BOH Highlands Run!
Fun right, going out for a trail run in BOH Tea plantation in Sg Palas? I likeeeee the idea.

Just nice for a trip after both me & Zaini's birthdays and also after Son finishes his UPSR exam.

Time to chill! The interesting thing is, there will be a tea party (or light refreshments served) after the run. Hope there'll be tea and scones with strawberry jam! ;-)

The last time we visited Cameron Highlands and drove up all the way to Boh Tea Centre in Sg Palas was way back in 2009. Such a long time already!!!

Anyway, the registration for BOH Highlands Run is open from Monday, Jul 21st onwards, with only 500 slots available for those interested (50 slots for fans of BOH Tea FB page to pre-register. More info BOH Tea FB page). I'm definitely joining and putting the family up at Copthorne Hotel nearby. You can register for the run at http://www.myraceonline.com/ (click here for details of the run).

It's a 5K trail run with a fun theme for families to enjoy. Nothing too technical judging by these photos...

So nice la to run here and see the rolling hills filled with tea trees. A plus is that it's Cameron Highlands so sure is more cooling than running in KL!

Must. selfie. along. the. route. Bwahaha
On the morning on the run, I plan to use a shuttle bus provided by the official hotels (Copthorne Hotel and Hotel Titiwangsa) to get to this BOH Tea Centre which is the start/finish line of the run. Much easier than navigating through the tight road by car ourselves... ^^

A mad-hatter tea-party themed run, so am looking forward to see runners (apart from us) donning their best, craziest, wackiest, funnest hats they have and joining this event with the whole family.

But hmmmm... what should I wear? What shoukd I wear?

I wonder if Mad Hatter will grace the event? Kids would love that. I'll be happy if Johnny Depp came! Hehehe

Before I forgot, proceeds from the BOH Highlands run will be channelled to Malaysian Nature Society for their environmental project in Cameron Highlands. Coolness!

Don't forget to register! See you on the trail at Sg Palas on Sep 28th. ^^

Second Best Thing

been craving for durians for quite a bit.

Friends going for makan and posting them on blogs, FBs, instagram and even whatsapp are certainly not helping.

Still yet to indulge eating them but hubby got these home...
my second best thing - mangosteen!

At least this won't stink up the car!

Must go find some durians to eat on the spot. :P

Did you register to Energizer Night Race that will be held on Aug 9, 2014? If you do, see you at Dataran Merdeka come Aug 9 night!

Having Fun, Out For A Run

again.

But this time, instead of running alone, it was with a whole lot of other runners, in the annual Ramadhan LSD by the Sabun Group in Putrajaya.

I only needed to do a 16K run on Saturday at a nice and slow pace of 8.20min/km and that was what I roughly did. So far, I've already done 45K for the week. Probably adding another 5-8K later this afternoon before buka puasa.
With some of the lovely ladies raking up their own weekly mileage. Strong determined runners, they are. One of the ladies didn't run but she and her hubby cycled for 70K! Wow!!!

I started my run late and missed the opportunity to be included in the group photo. Hu~

What did the boys do when I was out for a run?

The two boys spent time listening to a talk by Mufti Ismail Menk at Masjid Tuanku Mizan (aka Masjid Besi).

Then later they waited for Mommy to finish her run, which ended at around 2am and off we went for our sahur at McD in Bangi where McCafe was open for business and Mommy got her cappuccino! Yeay!

Taking Turns And Energizer Night Race Vest Preview

Who'd believe that hubby and I would someday have to compromise (well, for me to compromise this time) on training time?

I haven't been really been venturing into trails yet, what with the only occasional jaunt to Gunung Nuang and Taman Rimba Alam while hubby seems to relish hitting the trails.

This Ramadhan month, it's my turn to "babysit" the kiddo at home while hubby went out with his trail gang on Friday nights.
Photo stolen from Man's facebook comment. Thank you Man! Hehehe
Night runs. Doing trail. Hubby wore the headlamp I got when I ran in the Energizer Night Race way back in 2012. Pergh...

Anyhoo, I thought of registering to "Trail In Twilight Stars" which is Penang and is a 12-hour night trail event but hubby isn't too keen in it.

Ah well...

Oh look! Just as I was typing this post, I received my race kit for the upcoming Energizer Night Race to be held in Aug 9, 2014.

Sneak preview of the running vest :
If you opt for courier service, it will be sent over to you by next week. Those who opt to self-collect can do it on Aug 2-3, 2014. More details at ENR website (link).

I'll be running in the 15K category while Zaini and Son will be doing 5K. ^^

See you there!
