The Kayu Lunch In Mid Valley

Only realised there's a Original Kayu Nasi Kandar outlet right here in Mid Valley when I was trying to figure out where to go for a group lunch.

A curry fix so near!

A fish head curry head fix, summore!
Was surprised when this was brought out for us. It was HUGE! I mean, the spoon you see in the photo is actually senduk size! The plate was actually "dulang"/tray size, I kid you not!

I even asked the manager whether this was two portion instead of one. Nope, one kepala. One portion. For five people (I think it can comfortably feed 8). And we ordered more food!

Probably could have just eat this and be totally full.
Fried chicken with lotsa sprinkling of fried onions and curry leaves. Yummy! There were squids ordered too, but I was already pre-occupied with my fish head to bother about it. LOL
A bowl of curry mutton with some veges and curry veges too. The mutton was so nice and tender. Yummmsss...

Service was fast although it was expected there'll be some communication problem with the waiters. I took the easy solution - tell them to get the manager talk to me. Ahahah...

Anyway, he was nice and helpful. Didn't give discounts when I called up earlier to check on their menu (Boo! LOL) but all was forgiven upon seeing the size of the fish heads that were served to us. The huge portions made us tapau'ed some fish head and I brought back curry mutton for hubby to enjoy with his dinner. ^^

Spent about RM35+ per pax for the lunch which to me is quite reasonable as it came with unlimited rice and drinks. We've spent RM50 for 2 pax, just for a small fish head curry lunch elsewhere...

So... ehem ehem... anyone wanna do gathering here with me sometime? Hihihi

The outlet is beside CIMB Bank *hint hint*

Pisang Relay, The Second Round

We entered the inaugural Pisang Relay Run held in Taman Bukit Jalil last year. It was held during the Mother's Day weekend last year and what a perfect Mother's Day celebration it was for me! ^^ Read the post about it here.
We're Pisang Sengal team this year! Hubby was the Pisang Besar (Big banana), Son was the Pisang Kecil (Small Banana) and me, Tokey Pisang (Banana Boss). LOL
We did not have the time to collect our race-kit on Saturday so we collected our race kit on race day and it was pretty fast and efficient. Thanks Hong Lan! ^^
Race day. Met and chatted with friends before the event started. Here, with the GC bunch.
At the starting line.

The event started at 7:30am sharp after a warm-up session conducted by Celebrity Fitness.

Yup, you saw right. There's a guy with a banana on his head. Banana-san and his team joined last year too. LOL

Pisang Relay is a fun run event but by no means everyone was running slow that day. There was a mixture of really fast, podium placing runners, runners running with families and slower ones. Good mixture.

It needs to have the "fun run" approach as it is held in a particularly well visited public park and we're sharing the paths with others. ^^

We faced an incline almost immediately upon starting and the rest of the route is by no means flat. A good hill speedwork training can be done here. *pant pant*
With the volunteers in charge of water spraying. These guys are a HOOT! Thanks a bunch fellas for your cheeriness! It's infectious!
At the "transition" area you saw runners getting ready for the baton (banana) handing-over and dedicated photographers waiting to take us runners' photos. Love them photogs!

Anyway, a noticeable difference from last year's Pisang Relay; there was no announcement made when a runner was approaching this area for the next runner in the team to get ready and be on stand-by unlike last year. I guess it was because the crowd was bigger this year?
Raimie with another 1.5K more to go in his second loop. Each of the runners in the Pisang Relay needed to do two loops of 2.72K. Yes, you see even little kiddos doing them! Salute!

This is what I love about this event. Anyone can enter. Not many running events have family run categories or allow those under-12 to participate and that's why despite the rather high fees to enter Pisang Relay, we didn't mind paying for it for a chance to run together as a family team. Milo Breakfast Run is another great event for those wanting to run with their families. Another one would be McDonald's Olympic Day Run, which I'm waiting for the registration to open.
Another noticeable difference between last year and this year - there were more teams with kids this year. We only saw a handful last year but there were loads this year.

And aren't these cute kids tough? Gotta respect them! There's even kids only team. How cool is that?

Most teams chose to finish with their third runner running hand-in-hand which is so nice ans sweet. Teamwork!
Also sweet is the support from those not running that day but still came to cheer and support their friends. Thanks!!!
We may be the last few teams to finish but who cares?

We had fun!

And to GC members, thank you for staying back until I finished the run. *muaks*

We finished the run, collected our medals, had our breakfast and waited for the lucky draw to start.
First, thanking the volunteers for their time and effort in making this event a success and ensuring us runners to have a fun time.
All ready for the lucky draw!

Great sponsors and awesome prizes this year!
We were lucky this year. Son won a RM100 voucher from Bike Elementz. Yeay!
There's even a prize for best costume with the prize of a Doof valued at RM499. Congrats Aizat for winning it. He was also lucky to win a lucky draw prize.
Our goodie bag. First time I received a toothbrush and a toothpaste in my goodie bag but they will certainly come handy!
We chose to purchase the event t-shirts and here they are with our medals. The tees can be another team shirt for our next run together. :-)

We had fun. We had our workout. We met friends, old & new.

Thank you Pisang Relay organiser, volunteers and runners for a great Sunday morning outing!

If you want to see more photos taken during the event, head over to my FB album. Enjoy!

Makan-Makan & Run In Taiping

We visited Taiping for a 2D 1N trip last week, to run in the "King Of Bukit Larut" event; a 21K uphill/downhill run there.

Had wanted to go out and try out the marvelous food there but as we were pressed for time, just managed a couple of makan outing and after the race, cendol plus nasi lemak provided by the event organiser.

Next year, we'll do at least a 3D2N trip there and enjoy more food!
I was eyeing this hand-drawn menu...
tempted to order but in the end didn't, but this fella did! *envy*
This was an early evening dinner.

Second round was later; at the same place - the Belakang Bomba food court, with fellow GC runners who went for the event too (my fellow King and Queens, I might add) ^^
The "Royals" gone incognito. Hahaha

And then, feasting on cendol and nasi lemak after a 10.5K run uphill and another 10.5K downhill the next day.
and this time, the Royals went all out! LOL

STANDARD CHARTERED KL MARATHON 2014
FIRST RUNNER LOCKED IN

·         Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, Y.B. Encik Khairy Jamaluddin fills in first slot at launch event

Kuala Lumpur, 24 April 2014
The Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014 was officially launched today at the Pacific Regency, Kuala Lumpur. Organised by Dirigo Events Sdn. Bhd with title sponsor Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Bhd, the event was officiated by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Encik Khairy Jamaluddin alongside Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, YBhg Datuk Haji Ahmad Phesal Bin Haji Talib.
With all 11 categories opened for registration at the official launch today, Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014 has successfully registered its first registrant with the Minister himself taking the first slot for the 10 km run.

In his comment, Y.B. Encik Khairy Jamaluddin said, “The Ministry of Youth and Sports’ vision is to champion the empowerment of a superior youth and sports development and to inculcate sports culture within the society by year 2015. Our focuses include Exposure and Opportunities for confidence building; Engagement and Activism for community development and Support and Engage, to the youth of Malaysia. Today, as an encouragement for the public to take up running as a lifestyle and to participate in the Standard Chartered KL Marathon which reflects our key focuses, I am pleased to be the first registrant of this event.”

With participation increasing every year since its inception, last year’s Standard Chartered KL Marathon registered more than 33,800 runners.  This year, the organiser is expecting more running enthusiasts to be part of Malaysia’s biggest running event with 35,000 slots opened to the public.

Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014, to be flagged off at Dataran Merdeka, will also see some new routes introduced to the runners. The prize package offered for this year’s Marathon is USD 116, 740 (approximately RM376, 524); a 16 percent increase from the previous year, making it still the highest prize purse among all marathons in Malaysia.
“Every year, the organisers of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon look forward to offering something new to the participants. It gives me pleasure to announce that this year will witness many new additions to the run, including new routes, new categories and new partnerships. We also have a new tagline this year: “Confident. Committed. Courageous”. The Standard Chartered KL Marathon is all about encouraging commitment to achieving the goal of finishing the race, building confidence,, and celebrating  of the courage of runners’ right from the beginning,” said Rainer Biemans, Director of Dirigo Events.

Osman Morad, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank added, “Although running is primarily a solitary endeavour; the marathon is a monumental social event. As the oldest bank in Malaysia – soon to celebrate our 140th year – it gives us tremendous pride to be the title sponsor of such an iconic event that has come to symbolize the coming together of the community and the spirit of the nation.”

Scheduled to start and finish once again at the country’s historical site of Dataran Merdeka, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Haji Ahmad Phesal said, “Dataran Merdeka boasts a significant historical footnote and it is only befitting that a monumental country event like Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014 takes place at Dataran Merdeka where thousands of people come  together to run for a cause –  whether it’s bringing home a friendship, the prize money, fulfilment, recognition, achievement or simply to support the people they love.”

This is Standard Chartered KL Marathon’s sixth installation and is once again made possible by title sponsor Standard Chartered Bank in partnership with Marathon owner and organiser, Dirigo Events Sdn Bhd and co-organiser DBKL and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia.

My Healthy BreakfastLove, With F&N Seasons NutriSoy

We are an active family. Well, I do like to think we are. ^^

Weekends are usually filled with some outdoor activities so breakfast is never skipped on weekends. It may be home-cooked (though be quite lazy to do so lately; both the mommy & daddy. Hahaha) or bought.
This used to be the standard home-cooked breakfast in this household. Would be much better if paired with a tall glass of F&N Seasons NutriSoy, don't you think? ^^

Remember I attended the Cooking Demo with F&N Seasons NutriSoy Breakfast Love which I blogger earlier? If you don't click here to read. ^^

I learn and was assured that breakfast need not be too complicated and for me & family, a simple breakfast especially while on the go is just fine.
A pack of F&N Seasons Nutrisoy with bread and peanut butter is a good choice. Or a nice plate of sandwiches. Or with a bowl of cereal. (or Mee Goreng. or Nasi lemak. Maybe even while having roti canai at the Mamak? I bet Mamak have F&N Seasons NutriSoy stocked up!) :-)

The important thing is DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST! At least have a glass (or a can or a pack) of F&N Seasons NutriSoy to keep you going. Have a healthy start for the day.

I try to incorporate protein for recovery food after our weekend run or hike - Gunung Nuang hike for a picnic, anyone? ^^ - as "recovery food".

I only shared two recipes in my previous post and here's two more recipes that I learnt during the Breakfast Love Cooking Demo with F&N Seasons NutriSoy.

Mushroom Omelette With Roasted Tomatoes

Ingredients :
150g mushrooms, wiped and chopped
1 tbsp oil
2 tbsp butter
Pinch of salt and pepper, as per taste
Parsely, as per taste (secukup rasa, as we Malay say it. Hehehe)

4 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tbsp butter
Pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper, as per taste

4 tomatoes halved
1 tbsp olive oil
Pinch of salt and pepper, as per taste

Method:
Pre-heat oven to 180C. (Or just grill it on a grill pan like how the chef did in the photo above. Can do also ^^)

Place the tomatoes on a baking tray, lightly drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place in the oven to roast.

In a frying pan heat the oil and butter until the butter is foaming.  Add the mushrooms and sprinkle with a touch of dried parsley, salt and pepper, sauté for approximately 4-5 minutes until the mushrooms are cooked. Remove from heat and set aside.

In another pan, heat butter. When the butter is hot, swirl it in the pan, add the eggs, allow to cook for about 2 minutes.&nbsp

Place the mushrooms in the middle of the omelette.

Allow to cook for a few minutes.  Roll the edges over the mushrooms, gently turn the omelette over so the seam is face down in the pan.  Allow to cook for a further 2 minutes or so.

Gently ease the omelette onto a plate.  Remove the tomatoes from the oven, scatter over the top of the omelette along with any leftover mushrooms and a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
How about coupling a glass with F&N Seasons NutriSoy with a yummylicious omelette?

The lovely thing about soy milk for me is, since its not dairy and lactose free; consuming it on empty stomach doesn't cause problem. I do have problem sometimes when I consume milk.

Homemade Banana and Walnut Muffins with dark chocolate
Ingredients
250g Plain Flour
1 + 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
1/4 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Cinnamon Powder
50g Sugar
50g Brown Sugar

110g Egg (2 eggs)
200g Melted Butter
460g Ripe bananas (Pisang Berangan), mashed well
Handful Walnuts, roughly chopped
200g Dark chocolate, melted

Method :
Preheat oven to 180C.

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.

In a medium-sized bowl, combine the mashed bananas, eggs, melted butter and cinnamon powder. Lightly fold wet ingredients (banana mixture) into the dry ingredients until just combined and batter is thick and chunky. (The important thing is not to over mix the batter. You do not want to make the batter smooth. Over mixing will result in tough and rubbery muffins).

Spoon (or pipe in, as shown here) the batter into muffin moulds and sprinkle some chopped walnuts over.

Drizzle the melted chocolate over the top.

Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes or until cooked.
Thank you to Chef Kenneth Kam for his guide that day. And of course to F&N Seasons NutriSoy for the interesting and fun cooking demo. :-)

And here's some very simple and easy recipes I did at home.

Son was pretty excited, he even got into action and helped Mommy! ^^

Banana Peanut Butter Soy Smoothie
Ingredients
1 banana (frozen or fresh)
2 tbsp peanut butter
1 cup F&N Seasons NutriSoy

Method
Blend everything until smooth
Yummm!

Banana. Peanut butter. F&N Seasons NutriSoy. Definitely a great boost after a long weekend run. Or for Son's active weekend. ^^

Or... for a more filling glass of smoothie; add some oatmeal to your smoothie mix. Blend the oatmeal until powdery for a smoother drink. A dash of cinnamon thrown in the mix wouldn't hurt either.

And wallah! A protein shake! This alone can be a very healthy and hearty breakfast. :-)

F&N Seasons NutriSoy Breakfast Burrito
Ingredients
3 eggs
Butter/margarine
1/4 cup F&N Seasons NutriSoy
2 large soft tortilla
Salsa

Method
Beat together eggs and F&N Seasons NutriSoy until fluffy
Heat frying pan over medium/low heat and melt the butter
Pour the egg/F&N Seasons NutriSoy mixture into the pan and stir until cooked
Divide cooked eggs equally for the two tortillas.
Sprinkle salsa
Wrap tightly and enjoy!

We can either use store-bought bottled salsa or fresh made ones.

The classic tomato salsa preparation would be :
4 large ripe tomatoes, blanched and diced small
1/2 small sweet onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded, minced fine (we used capsicum this time, which is lightly grilled before dicing it)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Salt and sugar to taste
In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix well. Best if chilled for an hour before being served. May be made up to eight hours ahead.
Such healthy yet very easy breakfast, right? Especially when paired with a glass of F&N Seasons NutriSoy. As obviously seen in the photos, apart from eggs, we had some sausages (those aren't frozen sausages by the way) too for our burrito breakfast.

What a healthy start!

I made a bowl full of salsa and I told my boys to leave some so that we can eat them later too, but the boys went on and wipe-clean all of it! Don't you just love it when they eat veges without much trouble?

Nothing's too good for the family and that's why we #BreakfastLove with #NutriSoyMy. :-)
